An announcement on Wednesday May 20th from Air Berlin stated that the airline will be begin flights from Germany to Israel on July 7th. The 2nd largest airline in Germany after Lufthansa will run two direct flights from Berlin to Tel Aviv.

Those who wish will then be able to connect to other German cities from Berlin. Recently Lufthansa announced that they would be running four flights a week from Tel Aviv to Munich on top of the Frankfurt – Tel Aviv route they already run.

An agreement between Germany and Israel was reached last month where both countries agreed to offer more slots to one another at their airports. The Israeli airline El Al will benefit from the deal.

Air Berlin hope to rival Lufthansa in the Greek market

The tributes have been pouring in for Air Berlin due to the airlines thirtieth anniversary so it came as no surprise to see Stansted Airport getting in on the act.

Air Berlin has grown rapidly over the years to become the 2nd biggest airline in Germany behind Lufthansa. Over thirty million passengers use Air Berlins services annually. The airline is based in Dusseldorf and offers a wide range of connections to many destinations all over the world.

Speaking on behalf of Stansted Airport Nick Barton expressed delight on seeing the airline reach such a milestone. He went on to say that Air Berlin offered an excellent service at a low cost with great options such as allocated seating, an excellent baggage allowance and child friendly airfares. He spoke of the continuing popularity of their routes with business passengers as well as holiday makers.

Recently Air Berlin added a new Berlin to Oslo route.

Pilots stopped working for 2 and a half hours today in order to protest against Air Berlins recent budget cuts. The pilots working for DBA and LTU (Air Berlin Plc’s) were responsible for four flights being cancelled as well as ten delayed flights.

The strike occurred from 5.30 am to 8am. According to a statement from Vereinigung Cockpit union the only flights affected were LTU flights. Peter Hauptvogel of Air Berlin stated that DBA pilots were only working from time to time after a warning strike last week. Hauptvogel refused to bow to pressure from pilots amid ongoing talks.

He went on to say that Air Berlin must cut costs due to the current economic climate which has caused a drop in passenger numbers. All DBA flights will cease operation by the end of November. All DBA pilots are being offered jobs at Air Berlin however benefits are believed to be less than they are currently on as DBA pilots.

Air Berlin bought LTU in August 2007 and plans to continue operations at Dusseldorf however stations will be closed in Berlin, Vienna, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Stuttgart.

One thing you can continue to rely on is our low cost Berlin car hire prices. We also offer car hire in many other locations throughout Germany. Search our booking engine now and see for yourself.

After two unsuccessful lift off attempts, Passengers demanded that a different plane be supplied. Over 170 passengers were on board the flight from Nuremburg to Faro.

Air Berlin says the Pilot had received a warning about the wing flap in his monitor however this was merely a reporting fault and no such problem existed

The flight was delayed for almost 15 hours as passengers gathered as many signatures as they could until a new plane was provided. Two passengers aboard the plane decided not to take any chances and refused to fly at all.

It is believed the recent Airline tragedy in Madrid caused the panic and upset among many of the passengers
