Berlin Zoo Wants Knut to Stay

One of Berlin’s most famous residents, Knut the polar bear has become engulfed in a war between German Zoos. Finances are reported to be stretched at present at Berlin Zoo which has led to rumours of Knut’s departure however Berlin zoo will not give up the bear without a fight.
This news has alerted Neumuenster Zoo which is situated in the north of Germany. Director of Neumuenster, Peter Druewa has claimed ownership of the bear. Knut’s father Lars was loaned to Berlin Zoo from Neumuenster in 1999 and Knut was his first born.
Druewa has said that his Zoo is currently unable to house Knut however he has expressed concerns regarding the conditions Knut lives in at Berlin Zoo. Knut turned 2 last Friday. There is currently another polar bear in residence at Neumuenster with whom it is believed Knut would not get along.
Druewa has insisted that Knut be given a bigger enclosure at Berlin Zoo or else be moved to another Zoo where he will have better living conditions. Dr Druewa is still waiting to hear back from Berlin Zoo regarding his concerns. Claudia Bienek of Berlin Zoo said that they have already outlined their position to Dr Druewa and rubbished claims of financial woes.
The mayor of Berlin has even become involved stating his desire for Knut to remain in Berlin. The coffers at Berlin Zoo have certainly been swelled thanks to Knut.
