The 35th World Cocktail championships were held in Berlin this week. The event attracted over eight hundred entries from fifty two different countries as contestants battled it out for the cocktail crown.
Crowds of people were entertained as they watched the contestants perform elaborate routines in order to win over the judges. There were two different categories available for entry. The first was called classic where points were awarded for taste. The second was called flair which involves acrobatic routines while making cocktails.
The flair competition was won by an English based Italian called Gianluigi Bosco. His entry called the Absolutely Rocking cocktail (vodka, mango, apple juice, redcurrants and lime) won over the judges much to his great surprise and delight.
Vladimir Banak from Slovakia was victorious in the classic event with his cocktail called Sweet Road (raspberry vodka, vanilla, cream, blackcurrant, cocoa, fruit liquor)
Former champion and local favourite Levent Yilmaz injured himself in earlier rounds almost putting him out of the final before a pain killing injection allowed him back on stage much to the delight of locals.
Berlin is the perfect city for such an event. What may be considered unusual in certain places will always find a home in wonderful Berlin.
